Why the Hippo?

The name DeadlyHippo Studios is inspired by Fiona the Hippo—a story that captured hearts around the world. Fiona’s charm reminds us of how disarming something seemingly gentle and lovable can be. Yet, behind the soft exterior, hippos are among the most formidable and determined creatures in nature.
That duality reflects who I am and what this studio stands for. At first glance, I strive to be approachable, kind, and collaborative—someone who values connection and creativity. But underneath, I bring relentless drive, determination, and a fierce commitment to excellence.
Much like the hippo, DeadlyHippo Studios embraces both sides: the warmth and the tenacity, the approachable spirit and the unstoppable force. It’s a reminder that creativity thrives where passion and power meet.
Andree Gibson
I’m Dre, founder of DeadlyHippo Studios. Since 2015 I’ve built software across defense, aviation, finance, and media—always with the same goal: make complex systems feel simple and dependable.
I cut my teeth processing FMV and satellite imagery at Raytheon, helped modernize legacy systems in the cloud at Southwest Airlines, and at Chase worked on high-scale payments and ETL pipelines. Today, I design AWS-native microservices and automation that help teams move faster with confidence.
I’ve been taking things apart (and fixing them) since I was five, growing up in a house full of computers and a dedicated dial-up line. Years later, I even built my own home after hours—electrical, plumbing, framing, tiling, the whole nine yards. That same hands-on grit shows up in my software: practical, durable, and thoughtfully engineered.
